What are the Regions of the Czech Republic?

The Czech Republic is divided into 14 regions (kraje), including Prague. Each has an elected assembly and a governor, and runs secondary schools, regional roads, hospitals and public transport.

  • The current regions were created by a constitutional act in 1997.
  • They began work in 2000.
  • Most are named after their capital, such as Plzeň, Brno (South Moravian) and Ostrava (Moravian-Silesian).
